Songs of My Life: July 2019

Clock that says the time is now 11:55

There was one word that kept coming up in July: NOW.

It was in my yoga and meditation classes, in signs, and windows and such.

NOW.

3 simple letters yet so powerful.

I even have the word tattooed on my arm. It’s part of a tattoo that says, “the time is now”.

And that’s what July has been about. Being in the now. The present. The moment.

The past is done. The future is in front of us.

All we have is where we are right NOW.

“Brand New Numb” by Motionless in White
This is just a catchy tune I’m digging off their latest album.

“I Ain’t Drunk” by Whitey Morgan and the 78’s
I was sitting in Chester White having pasta and a glass of wine when this song came on. I really love the music they play and this day was no different. The song caught my ear and just stuck.

“Can’t Be Alone Tonight” by Atlas Genius
I some how missed this release in January but by god is it fan-fucking-tastic. I love everything about this song. Everything.

“Promises” by Calvin Harris with Sam Smith
I can’t say I’m a big fan of either gentlemen and if they were standing beside, I probably wouldn’t even know it. But I am digging this song. I can’t even tell you why I like it. I just like it. I discovered it on a running playlist that they gym I belong to put out for a 10k run. If you’re on Apple Music, you can listen to the playlist here.

“Pass Out” by Tinie Tempah
This song is also on the above playlist for the 10k run. Also can’t tell you why I like it other than I just do.

“I Just Wanna Shine” by Fitz and the Tantrums
Every. Single. Word. In. This. Song. I have either lived it, live it, felt it, or feel it. These lyrics: “I just wanna shine, like the sun when it comes up…’Cause today’s gonna be my day…Goodnight stress, I’ll see you in the morning. I don’t gotta guess, you’re always there for me. Sowing them seeds of doubt, I think you like seeing me freak out…Stay out of my head, ’cause it’s dangerous and I don’t wanna lose my mind…I used to lay low, hiding in the shadows. So don’t give me dark days, I already had those. I’m just tryna figure out how to be myself right now…”
