Barfly: Music Playlist

This was the soundtrack to Barfly

Barfly by Ray LaMontagne
This song truly inspired the first chapter of the book. I was listening to the song and watching the rain fall outside. The first chapter just flowed from my fingertips.
I loved the lyrics: “Slow down, you’re moving to fast. Kiss me before you go, I’m going nowhere baby.”

Pizza and Wine by Marvelous 3
This song title gave me the idea for Stellan and Anna’s first date.

Two Shots of Happy, One Shot of Sad by U2
This song is how I imagined Anna would feel as she drinks.

Easily Bruised by Matthew Barber
The lyrics kind of put me in the mindset of how two people feel at the beginning of a relationship. Cautious because we’re all easily bruised.

You Sexy Thing by Stereophonics
A fantastic cover and when I heard it, I could hear Anna singing this and asking these questions in her head to “Mr. Beautiful” before she discovers his name is Stellan.

God of Wine by Third Eye Blind

Dancing with the Women at the Bar by Whiskeytown

Good Times by Tommy Lee featuring Butch Walker
I could hear Anna saying this to Stellan. “Don’t let me stay in a place where this hate can steal my soul.”

Summer Wine by The Corrs

Can’t Stop, Gotta Date with Hate by Lostprophets
I really liked the lyrics: “I don’t wanna wait or leave it up to fate ’cause I just wanna watch you all night.” I could picture either Anna or Stellan telling the other that.

Under the Milky Way by The Church
I could probably use this song in all my writing playlist, but I could picture this song playing in the background of any scene I was writing with Roman and Anna. “Wish I knew you were looking for, might’ve what you would find…”

Weak in the Knees by Serena Ryder
This song inspired so much of how Anna felt for Stellan. She was weak in the knees when she first saw him and I could picture her walking up to Stellan and kissing him in front of all his friends like the song says.

Afterglow by INXS

Fire by Augustana
The song is one big emotion of desire. It just fit the story.

Majoring in Minors by Sugarcult

Shaking by Sugarcult
This song to me, just fit the story on a lyric level.

Scratch by Kendall Payne
This song would be the song Anna would play for Stellan after it all goes to hell. She would ask him to start over from scratch.

The Absence of Your Company by Kim Richey
I pictured Anna sitting in her apartment playing this song over and over. Trying to find a meaning to her life without Stellan.

So At Last by Butch Walker
I imagine this song playing while Anna is in the parking garage.

Always All Ways (Apologies, Glances, & Messed Up Chances) by Lostprophets
This song would be playing at the end of the book. It would be Anna’s apology song.
