In alphabetically order by band, here are my favorite albums of 2012:
Sunshine Salvation by 26
If you follow me on Twitter or on this site, you know I am a huge fan of this Australian band. They have quickly become one of my favorite bands to listen to and a must listen to on a daily basis. This album was one of the most highly anticipated albums by me this year and it did not disappoint. I can’t speak highly enough about this band or their music. Go to iTunes right now and buy this album. 26’s music and lyrics just connect to one’s soul.
Favorite song: “Someone Else”
Do It for Free by The Constellations
From the A-T-L (Atlanta, GA for anyone who doesn’t know), this is another band I am a huge fan of. They released an EP before Do It For Free and it was also an album I was looking forward to. They did not disappoint with their sophomore release and continue to bring their southern, funk, fun to the masses!
Favorite song: “Let it Go”
Start Livin’ by Donavon Frankenreiter
Another must listen to daily artist. Donavon’s music never fails to put me in a good mood. I can hear the sand and the surf that inspire his music. I FINALLY got to see him live this year and it was everything I wanted it to be. This album quickly became the album I listened to when I needed to be transported to the beach.
Favorite song: “Start Livin'”
Weapons by Lostprophets
This album is filled with anthems, angst, and all around ass kicking. From track one to the end, this reminded me why I like this U.K. band so much. It makes me raise my fist in the air and want to fight for the underdogs and the good.
Favorite song: “Jesus Walks”
In the Dusk of Everything by Matthew Ryan
Another highly anticipated album by me. There is nothing I don’t like about Matthew’s music. It’s from the heart and written for the head.
Favorite song: “And It’s Such a Drag”
Curve by Our Lady Peace
This is another band that could record no wrong. I was beyond thrilled when the news of Curve was announced and I even got to see them perform at 1065’s End of Summer Weenie Roast. This band never disappoints on record or live.
Favorite song: “As Fast As You Can”
Spirit Bird by Xavier Rudd
Another Australian artist who I fell in love with in 2011. I cannot even describe the emotions and feelings that wash over me when I listen to Xavier’s music or see him live in concert. It truly is a spiritual experience. This was probably the one album I was looking forward to the most in 2012 and Xavier didn’t disappoint.
Favorite song: “3 Roads”
And since they are technically not albums, my favorite EPs of 2012:
The Landslide by A Thousand Horses – great little southern rock band with songs that will be your best friends when you’re drinking your blues, heartaches, troubles away.
Mein Herz Brennt by Rammstein – the remastering of “Mein Herz Brennt” with a piano is a freaking win!
