Songs of My Life: April 2015

du·al·i·ty: d(y)o͞oˈalədē/
noun: duality; plural noun: dualities
1. the quality or condition of being dual.
2. an instance of opposition or contrast between two concepts or two aspects of something; a dualism.

The theme of April was duality and duals.
For songs: it was dual songs by certain artists.
For duality: it was realization that we all have 2 sides or faces. The one we show to the world and the one we don’t even show to the mirror. There is a truth in each side/face. It’s part of who we are and I’ve finally learned to balance both sides of me.

“NANNA” by XAVIER RUDD and the UNITED NATIONS
This song was the first song I woke up singing in the month of April and it was this simple message: “Stand strong in what I know, stand aside from the ego…I believe in you.”

“3 ROADS” by XAVIER RUDD
Some songs take one “to church”, this song takes me to just being in the human spirit. Every time it pops up on shuffle, I feel the spirits of the Universe around me and connected to them.

“READY” by PETER SEARCY
I have followed Peter’s career since his album COULD YOU PLEASE AND THANK YOU came out. This song was from his album TRUSTFALLS that I don’t think was ever released. You’ll just have to trust me when I say it’s a catchy and infectious song. This is everyone at one point in their life: “I’m ready. Ready for that’s something that’s better. Better than nothing, but I better pick up the tab and go home…You get stuck in the lights of time passing by and you can’t move out of fear…”

“FURNITURE” by PETER SEARCY
This all day: “might not change your life, but then again it might.”
I have always connected these lyrics: “You can move the room around but the furniture won’t change your life. You can change the color of your hair and get tattoos everywhere, might not change your life. Then again it might.”
This song just reminded me to live fearlessly and to live loud.

“NO HARM” by EDITORS
New EDITORS. That’s all you need to know. NEW. EDITORS.

“BLOOD” by EDITORS
This song just reminded me that everyone is different. The only similarity is truly this: “Blood runs through your veins, that’s where our similarity ends.”

“AMERCIA’S SWEETHEART” by ELLE KING
This song reminds me of “The Girls” (you know who you are if you’re reading this). We’re a band of misfit soul sistas with backgrounds as various as we are, but we all friends. Whatever place they were meant to have in my life, I am glad the Universe gifted me each of their friendships and sisterhoods. We are definitely not America’s Sweethearts, but this song is us:
“No there ain’t nothing that I gotta prove…You try and change me you can go to hell cause I don’t want to be nobody else…So kick out the jams, kick up the soul, pour another glass of that rock and roll, turn up the band, fire in the hole, gonna lose control…what do you want from me, I’m not America’s sweetheart, but you love me anyway…”

“I’M GONNA SHOW YOU CRAZY” by BEBE REXHA
Ronnie, one of my best friends and my gay hubby, sent me this song with the message: “our new theme song”. All I could think was: NAILED IT! We all try to hide crazy. I say fuck that. Put it out on the front porch so everyone can see it. “There’s not a single thing that’s wrong with my mind…so what if I’m fucking crazy?”

I scoured the internet for bootlegs of Peter’s songs, but could not find them 🙁
