I’m glad you’re ending March. You’ve been a doozy for the world. With Corvid-19 literally and figuratively taking over the world be it in people or the news, stupid politicians doing stupid things (though that’s always been happening) to here in Sydney, Mother Nature can’t make up her mind. She’s having hot flashes one day. Rain the next and then wind that could put the Windy City to shame. I would like one month of normalcy. No fires. No floods. No virus. Just one month of normal. Whatever that may be.
The theme this month is all about the bass…no treble.
Maybe bass and beats is more the vibes. But it’s music that has moved me. Physically. Mentally. Even spiritually.

The Chosen 3:
LIGHT (energy): “King of Nothing” by 26
Everything about this song is energy. The music is a continuous loop of energy that is quiet and infectious that ripples through your body, igniting you to move, to do.
LOVE (vibration): “Rub a Dub” by 311
This is actually one of my favourite 311 songs. Subtle soul moving vibration. You feel good from your head to your toes listening to this.
MAGIC (frequency): “Follow the Sun” by Xavier Rudd
This song is embodiment of magic. As Xavier sings, “Breathe, breathe in the air. Set your intentions. Dream with care. Tomorrow is a new day for everyone. Brand new moon, brand new sun.”
The Gifts from the Universe:
“Try Again” by Aaliyah
This song isn’t on Apple Music so you’ll need to head over to Spotify to listen if you want to. Now that’s out of the way, this song spun into my life while I was lying underneath a barbell trying to do a bench press. I wasn’t feeling 100% but I showed up anyway and the first set wasn’t all that great. But as I laid there staring at metal, these lyrics played “if at first you don’t succeed, dust yourself off and try again”. I did just that and I nailed the set.
“Sunshine” by Flight Facilities featuring Reggie Watts
If you listen to this song and are not dancing and shaking your butt please check your pulse because this song is pure fucking sunshine.
“No Witness” by LP
Another dance-y song but in a come to Jesus kind of way. This song just makes me raise my hand in the air and scream amen!
“Chandelier” by Damien Rice (Sia Cover)
Damien Rice covering Sia. That is all. Damn he makes this song sad. I want to cry into a glass of whiskey.
“Sell It” by Black Rebel Motorcycle Club
The bass in this song. Love. Love. Love. I may have listened to this on repeat for a few hours. My neighbours could hate me for it. I could care less if they do.
“I’ll Go Crazy if I Don’t Go Crazy Tonight” by U2
We’re not on lock down yet here in Australia. I’d say they’ve closed non-essential businesses but I’m not really sure what is non-essential because the messaging is very confusing from the Prime Minister. I started to work from home on St Patrick’s Day and let’s just say, I am grateful that I can get outside for a bit to train in the park with my trainer. Because on Day 3 of my work from home, this song played and it summed up how I was feeling. If we do go into lock down, I will go crazy.
“You Found Me” by The Fray
I’m pretty sure it was rainy Sunday when this song played. I feel that every Sunday has been rainy in the month of March because the weather here is whacked. Hot. Cold. Rain. Wind. Hot wind. Cold wind. Rainy wind. Hot rain. Cold rain. Throw it in a blender and see what happens. Anyway, I was just reminded how much I liked this song and how these lyrics, “…you found me lying on the floor surrounded. Why’d you have to wait? Where were you? Just a little late…” inspired a story I started but never finished. Maybe with all this self isolation I’ll finish it.
“Do I Wanna Know” by Hozier (Arctic Monkeys Cover)
This song isn’t on Apple Music or Spotify so watch the video below. Just like Damien, Hozier makes this song beautifully sad. What is up with sad Irishmen?

“Algorhythm” by Childish Gambino
Beats and bass. Bass and beats. This is my favorite track off the new Childish Gambino album. DAYUM. That’s all I got to say about that.
“Los” by Rammstein
Acoustic bass and beats from my favorite. Just give it a listen before you’re like that’s heavy. You’ll be surprised.
“Pretty Crazy” by Butch Walker
New. Butch. Walker. That’s all you need to know.
