Songs of My Life: May 2014

May only had 3 songs.

THREE!

WTF right? But the 3 songs are fan-fucking-tastic and you can take that to the bank right there! May’s “Songs of My Life” are probably the danciest of the years.

The one thing I can say about May’s 3 songs is that they are fierce. I hope you enjoy them as much as I have enjoyed listening to them over and over again this month.

“Sissy That Walk” by RuPaul
I adore RuPaul. Hell, I adore drag queens and I love this song. It’s catchy and I love the lyric: “People talking since the beginning of time. Unless they paying your bills, pay them bitches no mind. And if I fly, or if I fall, least I can say I gave it all.”
I may not be a drag queen and I might not have a drag mother that has taken me under wing, but I always find inspiration in Miss RuPaul. She’s tough, she’s fierce, and she’s wise.

“Faster Kill Pussycat” by Paul Oakenfold featuring Brittany Murphy
Oakenfold is one of my favorite DJs. Way before the likes of Tiesto, Avicii, AfroJack, David Guetta, Zedd, Moby, and the others who are currently being played on the radio, there was Paul Oakenfold. He has mixed some of my favorite songs “Even Better Than the Real Thing (Perfecto Mix)” [U2], “Generations of Love (Oakenfold Mix)” [Boy George], “New Born (Oakenfold Mix)” [Muse] and through my friend Heather I was able to not only see Oakenfold, I was able to meet him. I don’t get starstruck often, but I did when I met him. Many critics snubbed their noses at his 2006 album “A Lively Mind” and this song because it featured Brittany Murphy, but this is one of my favorite songs/album by Oakenfold. “A Lively Mind” features some of today’s hottest artists like Pharrell Williams, Ryan Tedder (OneRepublic) and Grandmaster Flash (for us retro fans). Do yourself a favor and go pick it up.

“Say It” by Röyksopp & Robyn
This pairing of Norwegian electronic duo Röyksopp and Swedish pop/dance diva Robyn is nothing short of brilliant. Their EP “Do it Again” is absolutely fantastic. My only complaint is that it’s 5 songs.
