Songs of My Life: November 2015

Apologies for the lack of music links. I just don’t have the greatest internet here in Hervey Bay and I want to crank out this post before it turns December here! So if you want to listen to the songs, you’re going to have to go hunt them down. They’re worth it, but I do have a few here you can listen too.

November…I can write a post just on thoughts, feelings, emotions, and energies alone, but I won’t. November has been magical. It has had its ups and downs (mostly ups), but as I sit here in the dark of a tent. I’ve looked back and realized the lessons of November are: never give up, believe, do things with awesome intention, love one another, and that to let love into your life you have to give love. In the words of RuPaul “everyone say love!”

“DON’T STOP” by FLEETWOOD MAC
Honestly, the lyrics say it all: “don’t stop thinking about tomorrow, don’t stop, it’ll be soon be here, it’ll be better than before, yesterday’s gone…” This was a perfect way to kick off November.

“HOME” by XAVIER RUDD
Xavier is like a shaman, priest, or whatever your religious icon leader might be to you. His music always resets my mood or spirit when I need it. And these lyrics seem very apropos for my soul as I touched down in Australia: “…but I recognize my health, the things I have been dealt, places that I have roamed, feelings that I’ve had, and things that I know…I’m home…places we roam and people we meet. Some connections or strong and some a little weak…strong as the roots of a big ol’ gumtree that will carry them through the next life we see…so beautifully strange…I am home…”

“PURPLE RAIN” by PRINCE
This ear worm was stuck in my head for the first days here in Australia and I happen to walk into a random cafe and it was playing. It’s just a great and epic song. “I only want to see you laughing in the purple rain…” That’s what I want for family and friends. Laughter. Love. Purple Rain.

“BLOSSOM” by I MOTHER EARTH
New IME equals happy girl. I love the lyrics “whenever I fall, I make it sensational. I make it no less than awesome…there’s a lesson or turnaround…don’t bother, don’t try, don’t call, cause I’m gone…” I don’t know, this song just hit my soul just right on an open dirt road in Australia and brought tears to my eyes in a good way because if I’m going to fall (or fail at Australia), I plan on making it awesome!

“SO BE IT” by EVERYTHING
This song was my reminder that The Universe has a plan for me and to not give up. “So be it that’s the way it goes so they say…”

“GYPSY” by LADY GAGA
I loved these lyrics: So I just packed my baggage and said goodbye to family and friends and took the road to nowhere on my own…”

“LIVE LIKE A WARRIOR” by MATISYAHU
This entire song is how I feel right now. Live like a warrior…

“ALL AMERICAN WORLD” by SPONGE
The good ol’ U. S. of A…we’re idiots. The whole entire country. Some are less than others, but we’re all idiots. I knew this before I came to Australia but we work ourselves to death instead of living. I did that. Job first. Everything else second. This song just smacked me in the face and let me know that as insane as I feel chasing the Australian dream, it needed to be done. “Life is a hard when it seems you’re a fish in the hook of the American dream…lots of us are looking, some die trying, if life’s so beautiful, why do I feel like crying? All American noise…”

“THIS IS LIFE” by JAKE EVANS
This song could be my anthem right now. “There’s a million chances out there for the taking. And I look to the heavens and I hear a symphony. There’s no substitute in life for living free. And I look to the heavens and I hear a symphony, you can live how you want but don’t tell me…”

“GHOSTS” by SAINT HUGHS
We all have ghosts/truths that haunt us and some we never face. This song reminds me to face them. “…we are sons and daughters of the street…we have plans to walk and wash our fear…”

“BUNDAGEN” by XAVIER RUDD & THE UNITED NATIONS
This song was a perfect end to a damn near perfect month. “with a heart open in deep sleep…the egos remind me of the center of my family…grandmother I call to you now, send me your angels to help me to love myself. receive love with no fear and no doubt, breathe me into your womb breathe me out…”
