“Rise Up” by Andra Day
The first time I heard this song was on the “ROSA” episode of Doctor Who which was about Rosa Parks. Even if you are not a Doctor Who fan or have never watched it. Trust me, do yourself a favor and watch this episode. It is a powerful episode. Even as I sit here and write and think of it, I am moved to tears. It is hands down one of the best episodes of Doctor Who. On Election Day and into the weekend, this was the song that kind of just played in the back of my head as I watched the votes come in. I stayed up way too late watching the election results and on a hike up Mount Kosciuszko, the group I was with asked for updates every chance there was cell phone signal. When the votes pushed Biden over the line, I cried. Voices of those who lost their lives to racism, Covid-19, and hatred had been heard. This song was just a reminder to cut the bullshit, toxic people from my life. I always call it “weeding the garden” but sometimes even the garden has been weeded, ghosts hang around. I spent a lot of November just killing the ghosts of what my life was by removing, deleting, and unfollowing those who were the ghosts. It felt good to let go.

It wasn’t trending and the 3 feeds are so far removed from being close that it just seemed very odd they would all 3 be sharing the same song through out the month. Anyway, what I really dig about the song is the beat and the horns. The lyrics to the song itself are complete and utter gibberish.
