Surefire by Econoline Crush
One of my favorite bands from the 90s and still one of my favorites bands period. Kicking off October with the lyrics: “Me, I wish I could be satisfied easily but I’m not…never enough…”
Lucky Now by Ryan Adams
Mr. Adams is back with another fantastic album and this is the 1st single and again, lyrically, I connect with it. “I feel like somebody I don’t know. Are we really who we used to be. Am I really who I was. The lights will draw you in. And the dark will bring you down. And the night will break your heart. But only if you’re lucky now…And if the lights draw you in. And the dark can take you down. And love can mend your heart. But only if you’re lucky now”
Ghost Towns by Radical Face
Free song on iTunes but I do love the lyrics. “Cus all my life Is rapped up in today, no past of future here…But I miss you…There’s no comin’ home…I still think of you….Yeah everyone knows. If you can’t let it go.” The song reminded me of dad and his love for my mom. She may not be here but that doesn’t stop him or our family from still loving her and missing her.
Don’t Stop Me Now by Queen
This should be a theme song for me. “Tonight I’m gonna have myself a real good time. I feel alive and the world it’s turning inside out Yeah! I’m floating around in ecstasy So don’t stop me now don’t stop me. ‘Cause I’m having a good time having a good time.”
Concrete Wall by Zee Avi
I heard this song on WNCW and bought the entire album. Great song and artist. A song about knowing when to let go and move on.
Hey Girl (Theme from “New Girl”) by Zooey Deschanel
LOVE LOVE LOVE this show and this song.
Turn Around by Iration
When I heard this song, it reminded me of my friend Heather and how she was/is feeling over her recent break up. “It’s hard I know, to let it go…I’m missing your love madly. Dying inside, I got to let you know that you were my heart.”
Get Outta My Way by Kylie Minogue
I love Kylie. She can do no wrong musically in my book. She would be my guilty pleasure artist if I believed she was a guilty pleasure. This song came on my iPod on a Sunday afternoon and it just stood out and demanded my attention. “What’s the worst thing that could happen to you? Take a chance tonight and try something new…Now I got a taste I wanna explore. Ain’t going to waste, no not anymore…”
The End of a Ghost Story by Matthew Ryan
My love for Matthew Ryan’s music has shown up on this site a few times and this song just brought me to tears when I heard it. Again, I love how the iPod on shuffle can move you from one emotion to the other. It wasn’t tears of sadness just tears on how simply beautiful and haunting this song was. I suggest you go buy EVERYTHING Matthew has ever recorded.
Heaven by Opiate for the Masses
The “heaviest” song of month but I just love the lyrics “I can’t get to heaven because heaven’s a place that don’t want me.”
Better Than Today by Kylie Minogue
“What’s the point in living if you don’t take a chance?”
The Sky is Broken by Moby
This song was featured in an X-Files episode called “All Things” and besides it being a wonderful episode, the song just fit perfectly in it. I really dug the episode. It reminded me to just to take a moment and just breathe.
Brand New Key by Melanie
This is the song in the HP Printer commercial with the baby in a walker zipping around through traffic. I thought Zooey Deschanel was singing it but not.
Faster by Matt Nathanson
They play this song during pre-game @ the Charlotte Checkers. It’s a cool little ditty.
Lullaby by The Editors
Their cover of the Cure’s song is fantastic
Pink Cadillac by Bruce Sprinsteen
Heard this playing overhead in a Wild Wing Cafe at lunch during the month. Just put me in a good mood.
Disaster by The Hundred Days
This is how I ended October…getting to see one of my favorite new artists playing live and then blacking out drunk after two days of ass kicking work. Sort of a disaster but I wouldn’t have wanted it any other way. As the song says, “It’s my disaster.”
And if The Hundred Days are ever in your town, please go check them out. They were AMAZING live and I cannot wait to see them again!
