September, September, September…you were all right. I learned a lot about myself this month since I spent it exploring & exposing myself. Here’s the music that accompanied me on my journey.
“Solid Ground” by Glen Perkins
Sometimes when you hear a song, it automatically clicks with something inside of you and you immediately know there’s something magical happening. I felt both when I heard “Solid Ground” for the first time. Glen has great talent he’s sharing with the Universe and I’m glad to help. There is something with the lyrics, “falling at the speed of sound, your love’s solid ground…” that gets to me. I just want everyone to have this song on his or her music device!

“Samurai” by Stokeswood
Like Glen above, Stokeswood is one of those bands/artists I believe in and will support and do all I can to help them become a success. I found myself singing this song to myself after a text exchange I had with someone that called my bluff. I am very thankful for the honesty of our text exchange and even more grateful that the person called me out. “There’s no true good in you. Dirty little shit you’re totally depraved…I went ahead and called your bluff…”
“Bedroom Toys” by Duran Duran
This is one of my favorite songs off of their Astronaut album. It’s sexy and sultry. I think men and women learn to improvise in sex. Some to just a make a relationship stay a float. Some to just to try something different. Some to push their own personal boundaries. And I think these lyrics sum it up best: “You want it, you got it, now what you gonna do with it…I saw the bedroom toys now I’m stalling. I can’t believe my eyes. I saw the bedroom toys now I’m crawling. I learn to improvise.”
“Unwritten” by Natasha Bedingfield
How apropos that this song shows up in my month of self exposing/exploring. These lyrics sum up how I tried to live the month of September: “Release your inhibitions, feel the rain on your skin. No one can feel it for you. Only you can let it in. No one else can speak the words on your lips. Drench yourself in words unspoken. Live your life with arms wide open. Today is where your book begins. The rest is still unwritten.”
“Munich” by Editors
This song is the song that made me become a fan of Editors. I don’t think people are really fragile things like the song says, but I do believe egos are fragile and those with the biggest egos especially need to be careful with their own. I love the lyrics: “People are fragile things you should know by now.
Be careful what you what you put them through. You’ll speak when you’re spoken to. With one hand you calm me, with one hand I’m steel.”
“Raise Your Glass” by Pink
I love this song. An anthem to those that we are all just fine the way we are. “We will never be anything but loud and nitty gritty, dirty little freaks. So raise your glass if you are wrong in all the right ways…”
“Digging the Heroine” by Econoline Crush
I have always loved this band and this song. There is just something about it that I connect with. In a way, we are all living our lives exactly as Trevor sings: “It doesn’t really matter why. That I know the reasons why. Stumble through deception. Fumble with your lines…I’m playing the part, digging the heroine…”
“The Sinner in Me” by Depeche Mode
We all want to hide the sinner inside of us and these lyrics sum up “our” thoughts about it: “If I could just hide the sinner inside and keep him denied. How sweet life would be if I could be free…”
“Twisted Tales” by Janes Addiction
There’s something sad and haunting about this song. Maybe it’s the lyrics of “…I felt no trust…hid my past from you to fit in…get in bed with you…told you white lies…”
“Leaving Tonight” by The Neighbourhood
First, go see this band if they are ever in your part of the world. I was fortunate to see them open up for Passion Pit and the added bonus is they are a nice bunch of fellas. You can’t help but want them to do well. I just love the emotions in this song.
“Summertime Sadness” by Lana Del Ray
God, I didn’t want to like her, but I heard this song and was like lyrically this is a great jam and then I discovered it was Lana. So there it is. I like a song by her. As summer comes to an end, I think this song perfectly describes all the sadness of it ending.
“Gentleman Who Fell” by Milla
I adore Milla and this album is one of my favorites to listen too. I love the confession of the lyrics. “I don’t know how to speak to you. I don’t know how to trust you. I don’t know how to live for you. I don’t know how to love you…”
“New Low” by Middle Class Rut
This song sums up my depression week. “No room to move around and this box is getting smaller…I got a new low…So I lock myself inside my head and just run in place…All I got now is today. Tomorrow ain’t here and yesterday is gone dead on me anyway… I’ve been right, I’ve been left. I’ve been wrong, I’ve been left behind. I’ve been up, but mostly down…”
“Come Undone” by Duran Duran
This song came on as I was flipping through the radio and when I heard these lyrics: “Who do you need, who do you love when you come undone…can’t ever keep from falling apart at the seams…” it brought tears to my eyes.
“I Just Wanna Be Loved” by Culture Club
Even after all these years, I still LOVE Boy George & Culture Club. I still have that same grade school love for Boy. This song popped up on my iPod and just reminded me of it.
“People” by Awolnation
I just love the lyrics: “We were born to rage. We’re the price of pain. We’re a single voice. We’re the second choice. We were born to rage…Today I say it’s all that matters for now.”
“Policy of Truth” by Depeche Mode
Lyrically, I just connected with this song this month. “Now you’re not satisfied with what you’re being put through. It’s just time to pay the price for not listening to advice and deciding in your youth on the policy of truth…You will always wonder how it could have been if you’d only lied. It’s too late to change events. It’s time to face the consequence for delivering the proof in the policy of truth. Never again is what you swore the time before…You’d better learn your lesson well. Hide what you have to hide and tell what you have to tell…”
“The Way We Are” by Kate Boy
New music faves this month. Really am digging them. Love the lyrics: “Got to get this out. Out of my head. Out in the air…”
“You Know You Like It” by AlunaGeorge
Lyrically, this song is/can sum up us all as humans: “Life can be cruel, if you’re a dreamer…I just wanna have some fun, don’t tell me what can’t be done. You know you like it but it drives you insane. You know you like it but you’re scared of the shame. What you want, what you gonna do?”
“The Wire” by HAIM
Just dig the beat of this song and these lyrics: “Always keep your heart locked tight, don’t let your mind retire. But I just couldn’t take it. I tried hard not to fake it but I fumbled and when I came down to the wire. It felt great, it felt right.”

“Not Coming By” by Emma-Lee
I heard this song on the radio and really love the lyrics. We’ve all waited for that someone who never shows up. “You just give me a little slice of hope but you’re not coming by…You just leave me dancing in the dark but you’re not coming by…Must be nice to hold all of the cards. They’re always on your side and you’re not coming by…”
“Love Bites (So Do I)” by Halestorm
When I heard this song, I thought to myself “fuck yeah, a rock song that is female confident” and this song is that. Lizzy sings with strong confident sexuality and it’s a wonderful thing to hear a woman sing like that vs the “whoa-is-me-heartbreak”. “It checks you in and kicks you down and chews you up and spits you out. It messes with your sanity by twisting all your thoughts around. They say it’s blind they say it waits but every time it seals your fate and now it’s got you by the balls it won’t let go until you fall. I was down and out, got up I said “Hey love I’ve had enough!” I’ve felt pleasure without pain. My soul you’ll never tame! Love bites, but so do I.”
“Stars” by Michael Tolcher
I’ve been a fan of Michael’s since he played a conference room for myself and 5 co-workers and I love the lyrics to this this: “I’m waiting for the stars to line up and the moon to the light the way…I’m wishing on that light at night…

“Pumpin Blood” by NONONO
I love it when the Free Tune of the week on iTunes turns out to be a gem! This song is catchy, infectious, and is a great positive song everyone should have in their arsenal of feel good music. I absolutely love the lyrics: “This is your heart, it’s alive. “The Conductor” by AFI
I cannot wait for AFI’s new album. After hearing 3 tracks, I’m hooked.

I just love the beat and mood of this song.
“Blurred Bynes” by DWV (Detox, Vicky Vox, Willam)
I cannot stop listening to this song. It is hilarious and has some of the best lyrics ever! I recommend watching the video because it is brilliant!
