TRACK OF THE DAY: “Saccharine” by Quintessential Doll

QUINTESSENTIAL DOLL started as the solo project of Brisbane’s STEPH LINSDELL but as she says, “along the way I invited some friends to join me on the musical journey.” Her EP LET NOT THE MASTERS DESTROY ME is 6 wonderful tracks of “darkly whimsical indie-folk with splashings of electronica”. Our favorite track is “Saccharine” and the song lives up to the title because it is a wonderful sugary … Continue reading TRACK OF THE DAY: “Saccharine” by Quintessential Doll

TRACK OF THE DAY: “Love Like This” by RY X

Today’s track of the day comes from RY X (he also does vocals for THE ACID) and “Love Like This” is just as haunting and emotional as “Sweat” and “Howling”. We are already fans of RY X and with every track he releases, we fall harder and harder for him. Catch RY X in February 13th-20th on the Sweat European Tour, dates can be found HERE. … Continue reading TRACK OF THE DAY: “Love Like This” by RY X

LIVING MY LIFE LIKE A SONG

As 2015 kicks off, I have one target that has consumed me since January 3, 2012: Australia (and if I’m completely honest, it was even prior to that date, but that was the date of my flight back to the US from my 3 weeks in Australia.) While I was on the flight back to the US, my friend Heather said that I seemed sad, and sad was not even close to describing what I was feeling.

I felt like I was leaving home.

There are places that feel like home the moment you step foot in them and I had never understood that until the moment I landed in Key West circa 2000 Continue reading LIVING MY LIFE LIKE A SONG

Track of the Day: “I’ll Be Home(less) for Christmas” by 8 Bit Love

Those fanciful fun fellows from 8 BIT LOVE have given us a non traditional Christmas song (the best kind I say) with “I’ll Be Home(less) for Christmas”. 8 BIT LOVE‘s  quasi-Christmas carol was inspired in December 2012 when frontman, Vito, and housemates received an eviction notice in the mail. “It’s a tale of shock, anger, despair and the concerns of the bonds between housemates when bond is … Continue reading Track of the Day: “I’ll Be Home(less) for Christmas” by 8 Bit Love

Track of the Day: “Legendary Lovers” by 26

I am a bit biased, but 26‘s cover of KATY PERRY‘s “Legendary Lovers” is absolutely wonderful. Even if I am biased, I prefer the cover by 26 over the original. The song sounds meaningful and full of emotion their way and while I listen to Katy’s version, I feel as if it’s a series of bad puns sung by 16 year old. That’s just my opinion. … Continue reading Track of the Day: “Legendary Lovers” by 26

Track of the Day: “Sweat” by RY X

If you haven’t heard of RY X (or his other project THE ACID) do yourself a favor and stop what you’re doing (even reading this post) and listen below. I have fallen in awe of the emotion that can be heard in RY X‘s voice. Listen and watch his brand single/video “Sweat” below. “Sweat” can be purchased on iTunes RY X: Facebook | Twitter | Website … Continue reading Track of the Day: “Sweat” by RY X

Track of the Day: “Beach Houses” by LANKS

I may have squealed when I saw this pop up in my Soundcloud feed and I am being honest. I did squeal. LANKS has become one of my favorite artists in the last few months. We’ve posted about LANKS on this site here, here, and here. Quick recap of LANKS (aka Will Cuming) is from Melbourne, Australia who also fronts FARROW. Just a mere 24 years … Continue reading Track of the Day: “Beach Houses” by LANKS

Cover: “No Diggity” by Chet Faker

“No Diggity” by BLACKSTREET might be one of my favorite R&B songs from 90’s and CHET FAKER does an absolute wonderful cover of it. He strips it down to an almost jazzy vibe. It’s seductive and sexy. CHET FAKER‘s version of “No Diggity” was featured in Beck’s Sapphire Beer Super Bowl Commercial and can be purchased on iTunes. Listen below and let us know what … Continue reading Cover: “No Diggity” by Chet Faker

Cover: “Cry Me a River”

I prefer covers of “Cry Me a River” to the JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE original. My favorite one was by LOSTPROPHETS, until I stumbled onto THIEF‘s cover. If Jerry Maguire had Dorothy Boyd at “hello”, then THIEF had me at steel drums.
