Two Crows

Photograph by Jessica Sartini

The photograph by Jessica Sartini of two crows inspired this poem and another I will publish later as it’s not quite finished. When I saw the photo, I absolutely fell in love with it. I have had a fascination with crows as long as I can remember. I look up at the sky often in search of the constellation Corvus, remembering mythical tales I read from my childhood and scientists have said they’re one of the most intelligent birds out there, recognizing and remembering humans faces. There’s so much I can say about this photo, but just look at it yourself and let it move you.

Thank you to Jessica for allowing me to use her magnificent photo.

Two Crows
Two crows sat starting

At each other
Through each other
One caring
The other not
Two crows sat staring
Watching the light fade away
Waiting for the darkness
Neither moving in fear of living
Two crows sat staring
Blue eyes burning bright
Black feathers dark as night
Their love of each other strong
Despite the desire to take flight
Two crows sat staring
Forever tied together
Bound beyond words and feelings
Love even in their eyes never fleeting
Two crows sat staring…
