Why I’m Keeping Facebook

If you know me, you know I am not a huge fan of Facebook. I don’t have any specific reason. It didn’t do anything to me. It didn’t punch me in the face or run over my dog. I just think it’s a playground where the immature do that “I read <insert person’s name here> update and they said <insert something that will unfortunately be misread>. I’m not 12. I’m not in high school. I’m not in college or some sorority. I don’t have time for your Facebook drama. I’ve got real world problems of my own.

So when I decided to post my novel The Dumbing Down of Love written in 2009 on my website. I deleted all but 3 or 4 posts on my Facebook. I then disabled the Write on Wall feature. I hid who I’m friends with (stop being a Facebook creeper, more than likely we have the same friends if I’m friends with you.) Then shockingly, I hid all buy my sister & dad’s status updates.

That was in September and guess what…I created a Facebook page for my writing. Don’t know why I didn’t think of it before, but I now can interact with those that comment on my writing and what I post on my website. I don’t have to play in the sandbox of Facebook. I can sit at the picnic table, have a nice discussion, and watch the kids fight over the who said what to who.

Again, I’ll post links to my writing and I’ll try to make it bit more personal, but again, I am not a FB addict. There’s so much out there that asks me to connect to Facebook that I feel very 1984 Big Brother is watching me. Like I said before, I’ve got enough real world problems of my own to have to “connect” or “log in” with Facebook and corporate America if that’s your company’s only way to connect to you, I believe you’re missing out. You can leave your comments on the Facebook page and I’ll respond and you can comment section of the website moving forward or even do something a little more human, tell me in person or write a nice note

New age problem solved. No more he said she said drama on Facebook. Just me posting for those who haven’t joined Twitter (for real? what are you waiting for?).
