Songs of My Life: August 2019

August opened and ended with new moons (August 1st and the 30th). For me, a new moon symbolises new beginnings, resetting, recovery and starting fresh. I suppose August has been just that for me. I tried new things, reiki and took The Space Between mindfulness course, I started a new training program (and am wrapping it up as well). I’ve had a lot of great moments and one not so great truth I still haven’t processed. But music as always, has been there, is there, and will always be there for me. I’m constantly recovering (in a good way) and being aware and reminded how damn awesome the Universe can be. No theme for August that I recognise, just music that hit my soul or made me smile.

“Pallas Athena – Live as ‘Tao Jones Index'” by David Bowie
This song spun into my life on Saturday. I just stopped, listened and felt one with the Universe.

“Ananas” by James Taylor
Perhaps one of my favourite James Taylor songs.

“On My Way Up” by The Constellations
Walking to training at a bright and early time of 5:30am, this song made me glad to be alive.

“Ground for Divorce” by Elbow
The song quietly starts off with the lyrics…”Mondays is for drinking to the seldom seen kid…” and it just caught my ears. I’ve loved this song and band since I stood in Paper Skyscraper with my friend Shappy many many moons ago.

“Tomorrow Starts Today” by Econoline Crush
The song title says it all. Tomorrow starts today. Now.

“OMG” by Usher
Heard this song while training and it just brought back memories of myself and my friend Amy in Jamaica. I kept singing this to her while we were at the airport, in customs, and the entire trip. It also reminds me of my friend Mike Knapp who would dance his little heart out every time the song played over head at the Gin Mill.

“Crazy to Give Up Now” by Rob Grad
New song from my friend Rob. Catchy little infectious ditty. Perfect to get me through Australian winters.

“Hold Me” The Teskey Brothers
My favourite song off their latest album.

“Broadcasting from Beyond the Grave” by Motionless in White
I cannot get enough of the bass and drums in this song. When it kicks in, it gives me “Kick Start My Heart” by Motley Crue vibes. (I know it’s nothing like the Crue song, I said vibes people…gives me vibes.)

“Slow and Low” by Beastie Boys
I deemed this song to be the theme song of Andy who kicked my boo-tay while Marcus was away. Every work out. Slow and controlled. My muscles were screaming and dying each session.

“Goodnight Bad Morning” by The Kills
Another song that caught my ear in the wee hours of the morning.

“I Like You” by The Human Experience & Saint Sinner
This song is from yoga. I just dug it. The vibes, the feelings. It’s just good.

“Sing Along” by Sturgill Simpson
Man is this song on fire. I cannot wait to hear the rest of the album.
