Songs of My Life: January 2019

I spent most of January trying to raise my vibrations spiritually and mentally while trying to match my outer self (body) to be the inner badass I am. Working out and eating right has become an obsession and I’m grateful for it because I am better for it. While I’m no where near where I want to be, I’m having a blast getting there, however long it takes to get there. Time flies when you are living the best you can. I think for the most part the music was a reminder to live my life to the fullest.

“To the Lust of the Light” by Everything
The title of this song sums up how I attempt to live life. Chasing the Universal light and vibrations that better me. It was the perfect song to kick off 2019…keep grooving to the lust of the light, keep moving to the lust of the light

“What a Wonderful World” by Louis Armstrong
Sitting in a bus on the side of a mountain in bone chilling temperatures, this song came on. I had just experienced seeing the night sky in all of its beauty untouched by human light. It was indeed a wonderful world.

“Blame it on the Boogie” by The Jacksons
I heard this song everywhere in New Zealand. After the 3rd time, I knew it was going on the playlist. You just can’t be in a bad mood when this song is one.

“Big Empty” by Stone Temple Pilots
As my journey in New Zealand came to an end, this song came on the radio and it was a perfect accompaniment to the downpour of rain. These lyrics, “Time to take her home, her dizzy head is conscience laden. Time to take a ride it leaves today no conversation…”

“BurnItUp” by Janet Jackson (featuring Missy EIliot)
Shuffle brought this song into my life. Damn it’s catchy and there are parts where Janet sounds like Michael. This is just a feel good song.

“Paper Castle” by Atreyu
It was these lyrics that made me stop and say, yep, playlist, but I cannot remember what they invoked in my feelings. “I built this paper castle. I’ll be the one to burn it down. I’ll just forget what happened. Before the ashes hit the ground.

“The Human Radio” by Shinedown
These lyrics: “I got a hand full of friends, that can’t be bought. If you tell ’em you’re the king, you’re probably not. Got a brand new approach, and I ain’t done. I’m the master of machines, a bullet on the run.

“Some Friends” by The Amity Affliction
This song just reminded we all have friends of varying degrees in our life. “Some friends will depart, some stay the same. Some will fuel the anger, some heal the pain. Some will help me up, some tear me down, but what goes around comes around.”

“Come Around” by Papa Roach
Am loving the new Papa Roach album. This song is by far my favourite and it’s because of these lyrics: “It’s always dark as just before the light. I know your silence is a deadly sound. It’s never easy when you’re breaking down.”

“Live Some” by Drake White
I’ve always dug this song by Drake and it’s just a reminder that we all just need to live. “Some days all you got is a rock in your shoe but you still gotta move or we die all we do is live some..”

“Greatest” by Eminem
This song is on here because it always makes me want to work out harder.

“Let it Go Where It’s Supposed To” by Butch Walker
While Butch didn’t play this live when I saw him here in Sydney, this song is a great way to let life be without forcing it into something it’s not. “Just let it go where it’s supposed to. Let your life hang out the window to dry and if it catches the wind, and you never see it again, then I guess it was probably time.”

“Shame on a Nigga” by Wu-Tang Clan
You just can’t be in a bad mood when this song is on…and that includes being caught in a rain storm and being drenched to the core.

“Fuck the Rain” by Ryan Adams
New Ryan Adams. It’s fucking awesome.
