I wanted the Songs of My Life for 2020 to be a little different than gifted gems from the Universe which are still happening. I have chosen 3 songs as well. I’ll do so at the beginning of each month to kind of set the intention of the month. Why 3? It’s a magic number, duh, don’t you remember School House Rocks! teaching you that? And because I have always loved the quote from Nikola Tesla, “If you only knew the magnificence of the 3, 6 and 9, then you would have a key to the universe.” Nikola believed that the Universe is made out of energy, vibration and frequency. And if you know me, I believe in the power of the Universe and Universal light, love and magic. So there are 3 songs to represent light (energy), love (vibration) and magic (frequency).
Listen on Apple Music or Spotify
The Chosen 3:
LIGHT (energy): “Golden” by Harry Styles
What a delicious little treat this song is. I am immediately swept to summer days where the breeze is a delight and the day is nothing short of perfect. This song is the epitome of a good mood wrapped up in a beautiful musical package.
LOVE (vibration): “Three Little Birds” by Bob Marley
One can never go wrong with a little bit of Mister Bob Marley. I can literally and figuratively feel my soul vibrating higher when I listen to this song. A simple and beautiful message that “everything will be all right”.
MAGIC (frequency): “Live Like a Warrior” by Matisyahu
For me, this song is how to raise your spirit or frequency to live regardless of what life throws at you and to not let it all get you down.
(Read Tesla: Inventor of the Modern by Richard Munson a great biography on Tesla’s life and watch Nikola Tesla’s Night of Terror on Doctor Who. It’s an absolutely beautiful homage to him.)
The Gifts from the Universe:
“This is Gonna Hurt” by Sixx: A.M.
I can’t say I had a true target (resolution) for 2020, but when I heard this song, I was like yes, this is how 2020 is gonna be and I don’t mean hurt in a bad way. I mean it in good way. Growing mentally, physically, and spiritually stronger by no means is easy and it hurts and it’s a good hurt. I’m looking forward to the growth and the hurt.
“Ain’t Misbehavin'” by Louis Armstrong
I’m sorry if you are not in a good mood while or after hearing this song, what on earth is wrong with you?
“Remember the Name” by Fort Minor
This song has popped up a lot while training and hearing it, I was like yep, you gotta give 100% regardless of how you split it up. Some days giving my 100% is 50% mental and 50% physical, some days it might be 20% mental and 80% physical, and some days it might be 10% spirit, 10% physical and 80% mental but however I show up for the day, I have to give 100%.
“Close to the Edge” by 30 Seconds to Mars (from MTV Unplugged)
If you know me, you know how important this song is to me and what it means to me. On a evening when I needed to know my mom and the Universe was there, this song played. I knew then it was all right. (This version is not on Apple Music or Spotify)
“Livin’ My Best Life” by A Thousand Horses
This song sums up it up best…“livin’ my best life…”
“Struggle” by Xavier Rudd & The United Nations
Xavier sings it best…“What other people think of you is none of your business. Sometimes we will go against seeking reasons why. Sometimes we stray far from ourselves before we realize. I had enough struggle now. I had enough worries. I had enough of emptiness. I had enough of feeling lonely…”
“Don’t Dream It’s Over” by Flock of Dimes featuring Sylvan Esso
Hands down one of the best covers I have heard of this song. Fucking awesome.
“Waking Up” by MJ Cole and Friya Ridings
This song popped up while in savasana and then a remix of it popped up while training. Both worked their magic.
“Soak Me in Bleach” by The Amity Afflication
New The Amity Affliction. Love. Love. Love.
“An Attitude of Gratitude” by Jimmy Buffett
Jimmy did this for a kids album and it is a perfect reminder for adults too. It just takes an attitude of gratitude to turn your life or someone’s day around.
“Alive or Dead” by Middle Class Rut
The beat is what hooked me this time. It’s just a great song by MCR.
