#38: “Gravity”

SONG: “Gravity”
ARTIST: Angie Aparo

I remember hearing Angie Aparo‘s song “Spaceman” on 1065 The End and immediately connecting to the lyrics “when you gonna go grow up, Mama always said…” and thinking whoa who is this artist. I bought his album bought the album THE AMERICAN and I’m pretty sure I had this album on repeat for months on end. This album covered every part of my life from 1999 to 2000: I had a break up, my niece was born, I changed jobs twice, and still had no fucking clue what I wanted to do with my life or what I wanted to be when I finally decided to grow up (and to this very day, I still don’t). I wanted to put the whole album as #39, but there is that one song that sticks out and that one song that I always find myself tearing up to when I’m somewhere on the road in the middle of the night and that song is, “Gravity.” This song was my anthem, my sing-it-out-loud, and reminder that life is unpredictable and insane. Just like a roller coaster, there are ups, downs, twists, turns, moments of excitement and fear. “Maybe happiness is coming but you don’t know when…we carried our cross like a clover and we smoked cigarettes and we lied about the things we would feel when we’re older…” When I feel the oncoming storm of depression, this song is one I go to as a reminder to fight.
