Following My Songline

I first heard the term songline from Jimmy Buffett. He mentions it in his songs and in his books. The Aboriginals of Australia believed in following their songlines…paths across the land or sometimes the sky as well.

I have always believed we are put on the paths we choose in life for a reason. You were meant to meet that stranger in line at the grocery store because you ended up saving his/her life by your kind words or shared conversation.

I am now following my own songline…

After life threw a monkey wrench in my life a few weeks ago and I realized life never goes as one plans, I had to look at all my options and choose a path I wanted to travel next.

No one wants to leave their comfort zone or what is comfortable to them, but to live life to the fullest, one needs to push themselves out of their comfort zone and do things that tests their resolve.

This week, I am leaving for Detroit, MI and starting a new chapter in my life.

I am nervous. I am scared. I am excited. If there is a feeling, I have felt it. I’m missing my favorite sport in person right now because my stomach hurts from all the feelings I’m feeling right now. I just need to take a moment and just breathe. To get all my emotions and feelings in check and pack my clothes. I know I’ll be driving back and forth from MI to NC a few times to get the rest of my life and my dog. I also know that home is where the heart is. It’s not like I’m moving to the dark side of the moon.

I am meant to be in Detroit. The stars aligned and put me on this path. I can’t wait to see what this path brings into my life and look forward to see how life will unfold and what amazing people I will meet.

This is where my songline is taking me…I just now have to listen…
