I love the message in this song.
It has become the song I have listened to every day as a reminder to let the positive and beauty into my life. My mantra has become, “Breathe in the air, set your intentions, dream with care. Tomorrow’s a new day for everyone. Brand new moon, brand new sun.” And when I feel like I am straying, I remember these lyrics. “When you feel like life coming down on you like a heavy weight, when you feel this crazy society adding to the strain, take a stroll to the nearest water’s edge and remember your place. Many moons have risen and fallen long before you came. Which way is the wind blowing and what does your heart say.”

I’m very fortunate to work for this band. I am very fortunate to know them, but mostly, I am fortunate that they have made music that changed my life. This song was a song that saved me from the dark. It expressed what I was feeling at a time when I couldn’t express myself to the world.
Giants by Sponge
Another song by Sponge. When they played this song live at Tremont, Vinnie dedicated it to me. I almost got a little teary eyed. This song was one of my favorites from Rotting Piñata. I always loved the lyrics, “Nobody’s listening. It’s like giants falling down…”
Lucky by Sponge
Possibly, my favorite song by Sponge and I’ve never heard it live. I will keep requesting it though! There was this moment I had gone to see a movie and I was in a pretty funk of a mood. Unknown to me, my best friend Kathy had drove by the parking lot and saw my car there. She stuck a note on my window that said hello and to have a great day. As I walked to my car, I found a penny head’s up and picked it up. When I got to the car, I saw her note. That note and that penny reminded of the lyrics “This little penny is to dream and make all your wishes come true.”
Big Western Sky by Kik Tracee
Another blast from my past. The first week of February was reminder of what I had gone through, where I had come from, and how music has always been my best friend. I am blessed to know Rob and to have him as a friend. He wrote a blog about how suicide had touched his life and this song he wrote with his band many moons ago, had saved my life. I didn’t know him when he wrote this song, but I’m honored to know him now. Whenever I am feeling blue, I look up to the sky and will find myself singing, “Some go right, some get left behind. I’m gonna learn how to fly, I wanna live high above the clouds. Afraid to fall, afraid to touch the ground, it gets me too far down. Big western sky, shooting stars at you. Big western sky, that’s what gets me through. Yeah when the funky little things get all blown up, I try to keep my head and chin lifted up to the sky. That’s what gets me through.”

Another artist, I am honored to know. This is from his latest EP and he still can make magic. This song reminded me just to be a kid again and to fall in love when I can.

WNCW turned me onto Hayes. I really like his music. One song is nothing like the other. This is just a great toe-tapping song about drugs and the military.
Which Side Are You On by Ani DiFranco
Another WNCW discovered tune. I knew Ani had a new album, but this song is damn catchy for a political song and does ask the important question of which side are you on.

I needed a break from the serious songs into something fun. This is a my February fun song. And let’s be honest, what girl doesn’t want to believe in the “you & me.”
The Reasons We Were Blessed by Xavier Rudd
The title says it all. They music says it even more. When I listen to this song, I get the feeling he wrote it about a love that entered and left his life. We never expect love to find us and when it leaves us, we also never expect that. When I hear this song, I think of my dad and mom and I am reminded that my time with my mom was a blessing and this is my reminder to feel blessed. “There are things I would like to remember. Things I prefer to forget. I will make my little list and hope my mind it will accept. I would rather place my focus on the reasons we were blessed.”
Heaven’s Trail (No Way Out) by Tesla
Perhaps my favorite Tesla song. I was fortunate enough to see Tesla in their heyday when I was a teen and again on the Monsters of Rock Cruise where I felt like a teen again. This song still has me scream out “You know there’s nothin’ like the real world to get me down. There’s nothin’ like the world outside that turns me upside down. It makes me feel like I’m headin’ down a one-way, dead-end street.

Bad Seamstress Blues / Fallin’ Apart at the Seams by Cinderella
This band was highly underrated when they came out. Not only were they a rock band, they could play the hell out of some blues. This song captured both. This song and “Nobody’s Fool” were my favorite Cinderella songs. They still rock 25 years later.
Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark by Y&T
My favorite Y&T song. I saw them on the Monsters of Rock Cruise and found out from some big time Y&T fans they rarely play this song live so seeing this song live was a gem!
Daydream Believer by The Monkees
Davy Jones passed away today, Feb 29, 2012 at the age of 66 of a heart attack. I will forever be a daydream believer because of Davy and the Monkees. Thank you Davy for making music that molded my life.
