When it comes to vacations, I am not spontaneous. I am a planner when it comes to vacations. I research prices, hotel, etc. I planned Australia for a year. Even though I go to Key West every year and stay in the same place, I start planning the trip about three weeks after I return for the following year.

Today, in a fit of spontaneity, my dear friend and travel partner in crime, Amy and I booked a trip to Montego Bay.

Why is that spontaneous?

We were presented with a rare opportunity and the decision had to be made by midnight tonight.

Decision made. We were taking the trip and with in fifteen minutes had a Caribbean island narrowed down to a select few and even further narrowed down moments after that.

By the way, did I mention, Amy is a planner too. More so than me.

But here we are, on a Friday afternoon with 2 flights to Montego Bay booked. We have no hotel booked. I don’t know a thing about Montego Bay except the word Montego is in a Beach Boys song and that it’s in Jamaica.

But in November, I’m going for my birthday.

I told Amy that this is how I will treat the rest of the trip. Fly by the seat of my pants. I have no doubt it will turn out to be one of my best birthdays ever.

I mean, come on, I’ll be in Jamaica with an ocean breeze in my hair, a fruity cocktail in my hand, and laughing at the spontaneity of two friends who love to travel.

It’s a win, win.
